We had an AWESOME day celebrating Adam’s birthday. He’s even gone as far as saying that it was one of his best birthdays in a long time. (Doesn’t say much about me and my day planning skills since he’s spent the last 6 b-days with me!) 😉 We really did have one of the best days we could have as a little family.
To start our day right, we had eggs and pancakes! Yummy. Two of Spencer’s very favorite foods. We had to start our day right so we’d have enough energy to go to the OKC Zoo!
Spencer LOVED walking around (mostly strolling or being carried) and seeing all the animals. We think his favorite was the Black Rhinoceros. We we first walked by, he (the rhino) was hanging out in his pool, so you could just see the black shape and know that was the animal.
The second time we walked by, the rhino was out eating some grass. We pointed it out to Spencer, and when he looked in the right place, his eyes got all wide and excited. He was amazed at how big the rhino really way.
We also saw some gorillas, which freaked Spencer out. I guess their posture and attitudes were too familiar to be comfortable for him. He got to pet some goats, see some chickens, pigs and sheep. Lots of animals and had a really good time. We can’t wait to go back.
Funny story about Spencer and birds. He saw the chickens and knew right away that they were chickens. He went over and started looking at them through the fence.
Then the rooster started crowing, and holy cow that kid hit his daddy so fast you’d think something terrible had happened. Every time the bird made noise while we were near there, Spencer just hugged Adam tighter.
A few minutes later, we went into the Parakeet enclosure. The birds are all over just flying around. Spencer thought it was great.
Until they made noise…
Here’s a WAY cute one. Spencer loves his shades. 🙂
After the zoo, we came home, got some lunch and put Spencer down for a much needed nap. When we woke up, we went to the pool. Well, we TRIED to go to the pool. When we got to the pool we were going to, it was closed!!
But all was not lost. My brother and his friend were going over to a family friend’s pool to swim and said we were welcome to come. So, I called to make sure it was okay. And it was.
So, we went swimming. Spencer didn’t like it as much this year (it was the first time we’ve gone this summer). He spent an hour hugging either Adam and me, after a while he loosened up and would “swim”. But his very favorite thing was to splash in the fountain they have on one of their pool ledges.
Of course, I didn’t get a picture of it, but it was precious. I guess that’s what happens when you’re all wet. Don’t want to risk the electronics. 🙂
We had a yummy pizza for dinner and after Spencer went bed, we had red velvet cake and opened presents with family. It made for a MOST excellent and very tiring day.
