The Great Cloth Experiment

So, I’ve been toying with this idea for a little while now. I’ve been hesitant to do it (and interested in it) because of what people are say about. You hear both positive and negative, it just depends on who you talk to. Today, I’ve decided to take the plunge and try it:

cloth diapers

I can hear the shock and awe in your voices now. But let me tell you how this came to be something I was going to do.

Adam and I were going to get a new game with Adam’s birthday money at The Little Shoppe of Games. We parked and were getting out when I noticed the shop next door, The Green Bambino. They had a lovely little display of cloth and organic diapers in the window. I’ve never actually seen these type of diapers up close. So, I asked Adam if we could take a look after we went to the game shop.

We went, and the people who run it are SO helpful. They even had a little area in the back where Spencer played with their son Spencer. While Adam talked with one of the owners (Other Spencer’s dad). They have pretty much every type of cloth diaper there is, but I learn that there are 3 basic types and everything else is just a variant on the one of those three.

After some discussion, I left with basically one day’s worth of cloth diapers. I am starting with Thirsties. I have 3 “Fab Fitted” diapers (the absorbent part), 3 “Duo Wraps” (the waterproof cover), and 3 folding cloth inserts.

I’m REALLY excited to try it out. I am going to try to wash them every night this week and see how I really like this. Whether or not the washing happens is another story, but will report back.

  1. You are definitely more committed than I am. I HATE washing out poopy underwear during potty training let alone all the time w/ diapers! I hope it goes well!

  2. Well, the lady at the store assured me that what doesn’t fall out of the diaper washes out. I’m not how much I believe it yet, but we’ll see.

So far, so good. I do need a few more flat, pre-fold or inserts for the wraps though. We’ve gone through 5 of the 6 diapers I was prepared for since 10 (and it’s now 4:30).

  3. You have to let me know what you think!! I’ve been seriously considering some of these fancy cloth diapers for when we’re home… although I’m pretty sure I’ll stick with disposables when we’re out and about. 🙂
