30in45 – A New Challenge

On Friday, February 25 Adam and I began a new challenge. As most people know, we LOVE board games. And if you didn’t know, now you do. 🙂 We have quite the little collection being built up, and we realized we didn’t play some of our games nearly often enough. We’re doing something about that now. We have challenged ourselves to play 30 games in 45 days.

We were thinking of doing 30 in 30, which sounds cooler but our life tends to get in the way quite often. So, we gave ourselves a little bit of slack. Some days it just doesn’t work to play a game. So, let me catch you up on what’s gone on so far.

Friday, February 25: Endeavor
Endeavor

Results:
Adam (red): 61 <-win
Jessica(purple): 60

Session Review:
It was a really close game. There were only a few potentially anger stirring wars for cities. Adam did observe that it is wise to "never get involved in a land war in Asia." At least he wasn't going in against a Sicilian when death was on the line. …hehe…

Sunday, February 27: The Lord of the Rings Board Game
LOTR
Results:
Adam (Sam) and Jessica (Frodo): 60 (the final spot), but lost.

Session Review:
Both Sam and Frodo made it through Moria and Helm’s Deep doing fairly well. When we came to Shelob’s Lair we made it all the way through, but Frodo didn’t have enough life tokens, and ended up moving into Sauron’s spot on the evil scale. Fortunately, he passed the ring to Sam before he was taken. Sam took the ring all the way through the fires of Mordor only to fail to cast it into mount dome, because he took was forced to move onto Sauron’s spot before he could cast the ring in.

It was probably more fun not winning this game (this time). It was so much more dramatic and involving to play this way.

Tuesday, March 1: The Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game
Cthulhu

Results:
Adam (Shub-Niggurath/Syndicate): Win
Jessica (Hastur/Yog-Sothoth): Lost

Session Review:
This was a difficult session for us. Jessica ended being really upset with Adam because of some rule arguments that could have been resolved better. In the end, we decided that part of the fact that we didn’t really enjoy this session was the fact that we didn’t have a thorough grasp of the order of play. So, we now have some “cheat” sheets to help remind us of the order of play. And we have decided to play it in such a way that we will establish a nice pattern, and perhaps avoid some mean feelings. On a personal note, Jessica wants it know that this was the first time that Adam won this game. Lest you think that she always loses. She just hasn’t been having a good run in the last few days. 🙂

Wednesday, March 2: Last Night on Earth
Earth
Results:
Adam/Brian (Heroes): WIN
Jessica/Shanna (Zombies): LOSS

Session Review:
We don’t get to play with friends to often, and were SO excited that Brian and Shanna are willing to put up with our weird games and play with us anyway. Thanks guys!! We played the beginner scenario called Die, Zombies! Die! The heroes had to kill 15 Zombies to win. The zombies had to kill 2 Heroes (which is harder to do than than to kill us) or last all 15 rounds to win.

Last Night on Earth is always fun (I think, but I seem to have a penchant for zombie games…), but it is more fun when you have some one to conspire with you. I thoroughly enjoy playing on the Zombie side, even if we did lose, with a buddy. We didn’t draw some of the cards that would help us move and spawn more, which would have helped us. Adam got a bunch of lucky draws and really got his characters set up to kill Zombies. It was unfortunate that we couldn’t deprive him of some of those, but that’s just the luck of the draw.

GAMES PLAYED: 4 DAYS LEFT: 39

  1. Thanks sweetie for the write-up. I love playing games in general, but I love it even more when it is with you. I can’t wait for Mansions of Madness on Friday. Thanks for playing with me!

  2. We don’t even own that many games, heck I think we have about 10 games…and most of those are kids games!

We are so going to have to have a game night together! I still have to find out from Justin’s schedule when we can do it! But I will let you know!

  3. Jaidi-You can have your pick of theme or type of game. We pretty much have it all covered. Cooperative or Competitive. Building postal routes across Germany or Building out the countryside in medieval France. Zombies or Vampires. You get the idea. 🙂
